Astrology Notes – Friday November 6th 2009

Sun in Scorpio, Moon in Cancer

Sun and Moon are now both in Yin water signs that understand one another very well. After putting our ideas out there under the Gemini Moon, the instinct is now to return to our shells a little bit, protect and nurture our loved ones and tune in to the feelings again. The signs alternate between Yin and Yang, and in that sense represent the wave-like flow of life – we have to reflect and take things in (Yin) before we’re in a position to put out what we’ve discovered (Yang), and then rest and reflect again, etc., in a neverending cycle. The sensitive, protective nature of the Cancer Moon works in harmony with the Scorpio Sun’s cautious / secretive side and kind of makes him feel safe. They are both open to experiencing their emotions, Scorpio very deeply, but the thing is not to push them, as both are liable to snap shut at the slightest sense of danger, and take whatever protective action is deemed necessary. So there could be some touchiness in the air, but only if you’re not gentle enough. A good day to be gentle with yourself and others, and to create a safe space to explore the feelings.

Sun in Scorpio Square Nessus in Aquarius

Nessus can manifest in many ways, but tends to have the themes of power, trust and the crossing of boundaries. It can show up as anything from a betrayal of trust, “crossing the line,” abusing a position of power – to crossing a previously accepted threshold and taking others with you, redefining what is possible. Yesterday we saw two examples, one in the U.S. and one in the U.K., of soldiers turning on and killing “their own;” they were able to ambush people precisely because they were trusted colleagues. Shocking betrayals of trust are a typical Nessus theme, as is the metaphor from the myth of injecting a poison in the process that leaves a foul stench that never goes away, i.e., abusing a position of power and trust has consequences that can last a lifetime for those involved, the thing continues to hang in the air. The Sun in the chart represents the “masculine” Yang principle – the will, the power to make decisions, and its squaring Nessus indicates a time when that power is likely to have consequences. Whether you believe free will is an illusion or not, decisions happen, and the decision to bring awareness to any process will affect it positively. Trust seems to be the issue of the day; trust is a decision, not a guarantee, and necessarily involves an element of letting go.
